Picture and brief description of interior components of Irrigator. A revision list is included at the bottom, describing recent revisions made since time of the original photo.

(8) 550 r/c car motors. $2.50 each from American Surplus

(4) Traxxas EMAXX transmission to gear down the motors and provide torque limiting slipper clutch

(4) 10 cell Sub-C size nicad battery packs. 40 cells total. Sanyo SCR 2400CP. Battery box made of 1/8" lexan and garage insulation foam.

(1) Vantec RDFR23 speed controller. R/C Dual Forward & Reverse Speed Control - Mixed Steering

W.S. Deans 4 pin connectors used through out robot.

(1) Futaba FP-138DP 8 Channel PCM receiver

(4) Hitec HS-805BBJ 1/4 scale High Torque servos

Galvanized steel pipe and fittings. 1.25" Aluminum square tubing. This provides all the impact strength to the robot.

Spring armor bungee cords.

(4) Fuse holders. Holds 20 amp fuse each. In combat, 4-40 screws used in place of the glass fuses to essentially eliminate the fuse overload protection.

  • Remove rear steering servos. Front wheel steering only. / reduce weight
  • Add aluminum chassis stiffening supports / strength
  • Revise from stock plastic rims to aftermarket XTM aluminum rims / started stripping plastic rims at the hex drive area

  • Replace Vantec RDFR23 with (2) Victor 883 speed controllers / fried the Vantec
  • Reduce chassis width by 2 inches / reduce weight
  • Relocate receiver battery / clearance issue
  • Remove fuse holders / decided fuses not necessary
  • Change some wires to Deans wet noodle type, 14 awg wire / more flexible, better suited for revised tighter wiring scheme
  • Revise front steering linkage geometry / clearance issue
  • Revise exterior aluminum square tubing and pvc pipe connection / strength
  • Return front motor mounting to stock / clearance issue
  • Replace stainless steel hinges for front and rear wedge with stronger door hinges / strength
  • Replace MIP CVDs with Unlimited Engineering Supermaxx CVDs / strength
  • Replace XTM aluminum rims with Dynamite and Powerline aluminum rims / XTM rims not compatible with Supermaxx CVDs
  • Replace (4) stock slipper pegs and spur with Robinson Racing double slipper clutch units / reliability
  • Replace stock center drive universals (2 of 4) with MIP center drive CVDs / strength
